North Ogden Approves Sewer Contract
Helen Taylor and George Parsons

November 10, 2008 - The first meeting after the general election was tinged with a melancholy tone, due to the forthcoming change in January 2010, with the election of Richard Harris, as the new mayor, and two new council members, Brent Taylor and Wade Bigler. Only 26% of eligible voters actually voted, but Mayor Harrop indicated this was an improvement over the primary turnout.

Jim Mackley, of the Freedom Coalition inquired, and Mayor Harrop acknowledged he had read the book, “The Law” by Frederic Bastiat, gifted by the Citizens for Proper Government . Jim Mackley and Douglas McGregor of the Coalition for Constitutional Education then encouraged the Council to attend a course on Constitutional Principles, coordinated by Mr. McGregor, to provide enlarged use of these principles in our City government. If you want your council and officials to attend this course, then call the city at 801-782-7211 and encourage them to do so.

November 24, 2009 – Approved was the ordinance to vacate the easements that reduced the Lewis Peak PRUD by 1 lot, to accommodate buyer demand to build 3 car garages, presented by Craig Barker, Community Development Director. Additionally, the Council adopted the revised Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan to reduce the impact of any type of declared disaster, in order to secure Federal Funds to offset expenses. Even though the plan is approximately 500 pages, the Council was encouraged by Helen Taylor, a concerned citizen to conduct a close review of the plan.. She also encouraged the council to determine command and control requirements therein and to complement and coordinate with the existing City CERT (emergency response program) that has been actively developed by our fire and police departments with local church and civic groups.

Gary Kerr, City Building Official, reported that there had been 24 new building permits issued in 2009, up from 12 in 2008, but way down from the 50 issued in 2007.

Annette Spendlove invited all citizens to join in a brief reception to honor departing Mayor Harrop and Council Member Jed Musgrave, following the Jan 12, 2010 council meeting.

DEC 8, 2009 – Council meeting canceled as per Annette Spendlove, (Brianne on 12/4/09)
