Local Ogden Resident Recognized for Raising $200,000 for St. Benedict’s Foundation
Molina Healthcare recognizes Cheri Bursell at the Community Champions awards
Ogden, Utah – May 2010 -- Cheri Bursell received the Faith-Based Organizations award at the third annual Community Champions awards, held at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center in Salt Lake City. Community Champions was created by Molina Healthcare to recognize the individuals and groups who selflessly dedicate their time to serve others in their community. Bursell received a trophy and a $1,000 grant to give to the organization of her choice, which she designated to St. Benedict’s Foundation.
Bursell has dedicated her time to help raise money for children in need. She spearheaded a committee that has raised over $200,000. The money has funded programs that help uninsured children receive medical care, grieving children cope with the loss of a loved one, therapy for children who have been victims of abuse and after-school programs for at-risk youth and educational scholarships. Last year, more than 8,000 low-income children and their families benefitted from this funding.
“Molina Healthcare is thrilled to honor the individuals who selflessly serve our community,” said Paul Muench, president of Molina Healthcare of Utah. “The Community Champions event gives Molina a chance to recognize the outstanding folks in the community who do the great work that keeps Utahans safer, healthier and happier.”
Community Champions was created by Molina Healthcare in 2006 to recognize the everyday heroes in our midst. The program’s goal is to honor individuals and support agencies that inspire others through selflessness, extraordinary service and contributions that positively affect the health, well-being and lives of those around them. The Community Champions is named in honor of Molina Healthcare’s physician founder, Dr. C. David Molina.
This year’s Molina Healthcare Community Champions Award recipients are:
• Senator Dan Lilinquist – Civic Leaders Award
• Sheila Walsh-McDonald – Advocates Award
• Cheri M. Bursell – Faith-Based Organizations Award
• Sergeant Jon Wallace – Support Groups and Service Clubs Award
• Marvin Cluff – Volunteer Award
• Kimberly Spangrude– Volunteer Award
