If you’re ready to make the very most of this Christmas season you can give as Jesus Christ gave: one person at a time. One by one. The Savior always reached out to “the one.”

This December, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is launching the “Light the World” Initiative once again. One at a time, we can all “Light the World” by giving within our homes, our communities and globally.

You’ll have four weeks to serve and create a beautiful atmosphere within your home, heart, and surroundings.  The service doesn’t need to stop after December. Once you have felt the inclination to serve it will become contagious to you. The Savior served with love and compassion and you can too.

From the website www.mormon.org we learn that, “Jesus Christ, the Light of the World, spent much of His ministry caring for individuals, one by one. Join us this Christmas as we follow His example and find ways to share our time, love, and resources with those in need.”

You can light the world however you would like, or you take up some of the suggestions given such as: Share an example of someone who has shown you Christlike service. Post to social media using the hashtag #LightTheWorld.

Each of the weeks throughout December, you’ll find themes to follow which will give you guidelines as to how you can serve.

For example, during December 2-8th you can “Light the World” by helping others globally. How can you do this? Find out more about another country and see what you can do to hep one person there.  Take into consideration of others around you.  You can also sacrifice the cost of your favorite meal and feed the hungry.

December 9-15th is all about Light Your Community. You can reach out to others who are living nearby.  Suggestions such as: Invite a widow or widower over for dinner, sit by someone new at work or school, or donate a toy to a children’s hospital.  For further ideas on how to Light Your Community you can look up ideas on the website www.JustServe.org.

December 16-22nd is all about Light Your Family.  You can call (not text) your parents. You can choose to have family prayer. Take each of your children on a one-on-one activity.  Write a letter to your parents or in-laws.  Many more suggestions are available on www.mormon.org.

December 23-29th is about Light Your Faith.  Use this week to increase your testimony and faith of Jesus Christ. You may choose to: invite or attend a worship service in one of the chapels for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on December 23rd.

Other suggestions during the last week are: make a goal to offer a kneeling prayer every day this week.  Wake up 15 minutes earlier for scripture study with the Lord. You can even share an experience on social media as to when prayer helped you through a burden. Visiting a temple or other religious site. You will feel the Spirit there.

You can watch this year’s “Light the World” videos, gather more ideas and strengthen your understanding of this worldwide initiative to “Light the World” through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

One person at a time.  Collectively, we can all make a big difference.  Look around your home, your neighborhood, your community and your world.  See what good you can do this Christmas.
