Harrisville City Police are urging caution to warn you against theft in your neighborhoods. LOCK UP YOUR VALUABLES. This cannot be stressed enough. Unlocked cars, bikes, equipment, ATV’s, garages, sheds, RV’s and more—all make you a target. All it takes is a few minutes for you to become a victim. Best protection is to lock your doors, close your garage, and secure your valuable items out of sight and out of the mind of would-be thieves.
We are told that in the last 4 months there has been a rise in vehicle/residence burglaries and vehicle thefts in Harrisville and nearby cities. In 2017 alone, 11 vehicles have been stolen and an additional 18 vehicles have had property stolen from them in Harrisville alone.
Many of these cases happen at night in residential neighborhoods. In every incident, the vehicle was left unlocked. All of the stolen vehicles had keys left inside. Also, there were firearms stolen in at least three of these vehicle thefts.
Please help us by reporting any suspicious activity or people walking neighborhoods after dark at the moment it is happening, not two hours later or the next day. Harrisville Police would like to stress that you are not bothering them by calling to report something that may prevent a crime. Many insurance companies will not cover lost or stolen items if they are not properly secured.
Candidacy Filing Period
This year Harrisville City will be holding elections for the following offices: Mayor (4-year term), two City Council seats (4 year terms) and one City Council Seat (2-year term). In order to qualify as a candidate, those who are interested must file in person between June 1st and June 7th at the City Office, 363 W. Independence Blvd.
KIDZFIT SUMMER CAMP!
Harrisville City is starting a new summer camp program this year. “KidzFit” is a program designed to helps kids get excited about being outside and participating in physical activities throughout the summer. KidzFit will helps kids learn to have fun and enjoy the summer months outside. KidzFit is for ages 5-13. Every Tuesday and Thursday starting May 30th and ending August 17th. Cost is $20/per participant per camp. Camp cost includes KidzFit t-shirt, water, snacks and lots of fun!
Splash Pad Season Opening!
The Splash Pad is now open for the summer season. Splash pad hours of operation are: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The Splash pad is located at the main park off 1350 N. Hwy 89.
Talent Show Sign Ups!
Harrisville Heritage Days is having a talent shows and would love to have you show off your talent. Auditions will be held June 20th between 3pm-6 pm at the Harrisville Cabin, 725 West Harrisville Road.
A message from Bryan Fife, Harrisville Parks and Recreation Director:
Children shouldn’t be left unattended in a park especially with any type of water hazard so I believe some liability remains on park users and parents. I am creating a pond on a $0.00 budget. We are focused right now on the splash pad, recreation, secondary water and weekly park maintenance/upkeep, including park restroom cleaning with 3 employees including myself. I will be bringing my personal small boat to clean what I can out of the pond while the water is low. I have removed all the material on the north side of the pond and a good portion of the south side has been worked. So, progress is slow but is being made.
