Harrisville City would like to thank the following Heritage Days sponsors:

  • Waste Management
  • America First Credit Union

Funding from the donations regarding this event will largely provide for the recreation activities program at the George E. Wahlen Veteran’s Home.  These funds allow residents to enjoy several recreational activities and services such as: trips to the Utah Natural History Museum, local restaurants, aquarium in Salt Lake City, attendance at movie and plays, fishing and more.  Without these important funds, the activities the residents enjoy would be very limited.  As you know, activities such as these give meaning and memories to the residents at the George E. Wahlen Home.

The 5k and 10k runs and 1-mile walk start at the George E. Wahlen Veteran’s Home (1102 N. 1200 W., Ogden) at 10 AM, and it will end at the First United Methodist Church (1339 W. 400 N.) in Marriott-Slaterville.

Chili cookoff begins at 10:30 a.m. There will be awards presented to the top male and female runners in the 5k and 10k along with each age group of male and female.

Of course, the Chili Cook-off will give out some awards for their participation and fund-raising efforts too. Registered runners and walkers will be eligible for prize drawings with a silent auction open to everyone who chooses to come.

The Ogden Nature Center will proudly present, “Destate” the eagle.  The “Hoofbeats for Healing” organization will also have a booth and bring a pony for show—although there will be no riding, sorry.  The Utah Military Academy Band and Singers will be performing during these activities. The American Red Cross will have a bloodmobile available for those wanting to donate blood (please pre-register).  There will be a bounce house for younger children and playground. And surprise guests –Storm Troopers from Star Wars will be there.

Bring your family and friends and please come and support the George E. Wahlen Veteran’s Tribute Run and Chili Cook-off on October 13, 2018. Please visit www.fumcogdenut.org and follow the prompt for the veteran’s run information.  Also, this will give you information on fees and registration.  You may also call First United Methodist Church at 801-393-5662.

Remember, if you have a dog, please leash him or her up as you walk through the parks. There is a leash policy in place.  Dogs are not to roam free in any of the public parks.  Please, also, pick up any animal waste left behind in order to keep our parks clean. Thank you!

There have been some complaints involving the operation of off-highway vehicles in the City. Lt. Keith Wheelwright is hoping to “dispel some misconceptions and present the current rules.”

In the September newsletter we learn that, “Currently there are no streets or roadways within the boundaries of Harrisville City that are designated as open for off-highway vehicle use providing an exemption to the requirements that the vehicle be street legal and the operator licensed. State law does allow for the operation of off-highway/all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles and mini-motorcycles on Harrisville city streets provide all the following conditions are met:

  1. All individuals operating these vehicles must have a valid state-issued driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle.
  2. The vehicle must be street legal, inspected, insured, and properly registered
  3. All traffic laws must be obeyed including but not limited to speed limits, lane travel, stop and yield signs

To learn more about these rules and see more information we invite you to look at the Harrisville webpage at www.cityofharrisville.com

A head’s up on an event for next month all about supporting our veterans.  October 13th marks the 11th annual George E. Wahlen Veteran’s Tribute Run and Chili Cook-off.  This will be co-sponsored by the George E. Wahlen’s Veteran’s home and the First United Methodist Church in Marriott-Slaterville.  This event is hoping to raise funds to support the veterans who live at the George E. Wahlen’s Veteran’s Home.
