EAT A SUB:

HELP MAKE-A-WISH UTAH

Jersey Mike’s Kicks off 8th Annual “Month of Giving” in March

SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 21, 2018 – Make-A-Wish Utah is joining forces with 10 Jersey Mike’s Subs restaurants in the Salt Lake City area for the 8th Annual March “Month of Giving” campaign to fund local charities. During the month of March, customers can make a donation to Make-A-Wish Utah at participating restaurants.

The campaign will culminate in Jersey Mike’s “Day of Giving” on Wednesday, March 28, when the area Jersey Mike’s restaurants give 100 percent of the day’s sales – not just profit – to Make-A-Wish Utah.

On Day of Giving, local Jersey Mike’s owners and operators throughout the country will donate their resources and every single dollar that comes in to more than 170 different charities including hospitals, youth organizations, food banks and more.

In 2017, the Salt Lake City area Jersey Mike’s locations raised more than $30,000 for the campaign.

“I would like to extend a personal invitation to you and your family to visit Jersey Mike’s Subs throughout the month of March, and especially on Day of Giving when 100 percent of sales – every penny – will help support neighborhood needs,” said Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike’s founder and CEO, who started the company when he was only 17 years old.

For a list of participating restaurants in your area and for more information on our charity partners, please visit our charity listing by state. Everyone is invited to come in to a local Jersey Mike’s restaurant and enjoy a delicious sub meal.

Last year’s Month of Giving campaign raised more than $5.5 million for local charities nationwide. An astounding $4.6 million of that amount was raised on Day of Giving alone. Since 2010, Jersey Mike’s locations throughout the country have raised more than $28 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 2 million free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.

Secretary Perdue: "Rural America will see major benefits from Trump's infrastructure plan"

“Under President Trump’s ‘Building a Stronger America’ infrastructure agenda, we can restore our position in the world and steer America back to prosperity, particularly in rural America.”

Rural America will see major benefits from Trump’s infrastructure plan

By Sec. Sonny Perdue

The Des Moines Register

February 19, 2018

Throughout American history, we have been recognized as a global leader in many areas, but we are in distinct danger of squandering advantages we hold over other countries when it comes to our infrastructure system.

Once the envy of the world, our infrastructure is crumbling and inadequate, and our nation risks slipping behind in economic achievement.

Under President Trump’s “Building a Stronger America” infrastructure agenda, we can restore our position in the world and steer America back to prosperity, particularly in rural America.

He committed $200 billion in new federal funding that will catalyze at least $1.5 trillion in infrastructure investment nationwide, allowing state and local governments to make investment decisions based on what’s needed in their communities.

Importantly, President Trump committed $50 billion, or a quarter of all newly announced federal funding, solely to modernizing and repairing the vital infrastructure of rural America.

In my nine months in office, I have traveled to 33 states, including Iowa, taking a hard look at the challenges and opportunities in rural communities and hearing from rural citizens. At every stop, I heard about the dire need to expand broadband access, rebuild aging roads and bridges, provide clean water, and supply affordable, reliable power.

Specifically, I heard from people in agricultural communities who could use better transportation for moving American farmers and ranchers’ amazing bounty and enhancing access to their suppliers and customers, both domestically and internationally.  Only with reliable and efficient infrastructure can rural America’s bounty be brought to market at home and abroad.

Aside from improving the quality of life for the people who live in non-urban parts of our country, President Trump’s American infrastructure initiative will create jobs for Americans. Such investment will increase our gross domestic product and boost the economy for all, including rural Americans.

At USDA, our informal motto is “Do right and feed everyone,” but we also fully endorse the president’s goal of restoring the “Made in America” label to the products we purchase and use.  Neither is possible without modern 21st century infrastructure connecting our rural communities to each other, to our nation’s metropolitan areas, and to the world.

Hi!

I joined the Tour de Cure along with thousands of people from across the country who want to put an end to diabetes.

I personally want to do something to fight back against a disease that affects so many lives and by making a donation, the Association can continue to fight for the future of people living with diabetes. The American Diabetes Association gives a voice to those in need and is the leading authority on diabetes care so when people are diagnosed they have a reliable resource by their side.

I know my participation in this year's Tour de Cure can and will make a difference.

Please help me in my quest to prevent and cure diabetes by making a donation. Your generosity would mean so much to me!

Thank you!

David

NEARLY 4,000 RURAL UTAH HOMES AND BUSINESSES COULD GET ACCESS TO HIGH SPEED INTERNET

Locations Eligible for Support from FCC’s Connect America Fund This Summer

WASHINGTON, February 20, 2018 – Nearly 4,000 rural homes and businesses in Utah that are currently unserved by high-speed Internet service could get connectivity in the near future.

These homes and businesses are in unserved areas of Utah eligible for financial support from the next phase of FCC’s Connect America Fund (CAF), which helps offset the high cost of extending broadband service into rural areas. The FCC will be distributing these funds through an innovative “reverse auction,” which is scheduled to launch on July 24.

“Connecting the unconnected in rural America is my top priority,” said FCC Chairman Ajit Pai. “I’m excited that our CAF auction will provide opportunities for innovative companies and cooperatives to bridge the digital divide for the Utah consumers and small businesses that lack highspeed access today.”

Nationwide, providers will compete for up to $2 billion in support to expand access to broadband to nearly 1 million homes and locations in unserved rural areas over the next decade. The auction will provide opportunities for new entrants to the marketplace, regardless of technology, including phone companies, fixed wireless service providers, satellite providers, cable companies and electric utility broadband providers.

By harnessing market forces, the auction is designed to provide consumers with high-quality, broadband service in an efficient, cost-effective way. The application period for providers seeking to participate in the auction runs from March 19 – March 30.

Broadband access is essential in the 21st Century for jobs, education, information and economic development. Since 2011, the FCC has targeted more than $9 billion in support for rural broadband expansion to over 4 million homes and small businesses through its Connect America Fund.
