The greatest outdoors in the world isn’t the only thing going for Ogden. Over coffee, come meet and learn from our local network of entrepreneurs at 1MC.

Entrepreneur presenters for our October 4, 2017 event will feature business owner, Michael Horne who helps tech startups fund and incubate their ideas along with Kristy Jo Hunt of Body Buddies who has successfully developed an optimum healthy lifestyles program for women.

Baseline Solutions is a technology incubator helping great ideas create their minimum viable product (MVP). Baseline Solutions bridges the gap between napkin idea and MVP. Most innovative startups require a "friends and family" round of funding and giving up a big percentage of ownership to a technical partner. Baseline Solutions solves a hybrid of these problems by developing MVPs and raising small rounds of funding for pre-accelerator companies.  “From idea to investment, our tech team and fund help brand new ideas grow and raise their first capital,” the owner, Michael Horne, shared.

Body Buddies - Body Buddies is an educational company that teaches people how to eat, workout, and think strategically to improve their health, aesthetics, and confidence. The education functions around the owner Kristy Jo Hunt's book “The Power Foods Lifestyle” which is a new conceptual way to combine the physiological science and psychological application of eating and working out. Body Buddies teaches optimal science, but then how to adjust to the right intensity and strategy for the individual based on their personality and the way they think for long-term sustainability in a true lifestyle change.  Ms. Hunt says she can teach this success.

Goldman Sachs is sponsoring breakfast provided by Coffee Links accompanied by coffee from the WSU Wildcat Store all at the Start Up Ogden space at WSU Downtown. Audio equipment support comes from Ogden Small Business Development Center; media support comes from Park City Television, The Standard-Examiner, and Indie Ogden along with marketing support this month from Brandon Ken, Lightning Man Productions Inc., Ogden Weber Chamber, and SMITH Optics.

Protecting health following hurricanes:

People living outside of the area affected by Hurricane Maria can help keep their family and friends safe after a hurricane has made landfall. There may be a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, and there is danger from downed power lines, flood water, and mold, among other hazards. For tips on how you can help your loved ones be safe after a hurricane visit: https://www.cdc.gov/disasters/hurricanes/after.html. Below are a few key recommendations that you can share with your loved ones in affected areas:

·        Avoid Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning after a disaster. Only use a portable generator outdoors in a dry area at least 20 feet away from doors, windows and vents that can allow CO to come indoors.

·        Avoid injuries when you return to your home after the storm.

·        Protect yourself from mosquito bites and reduce the number of mosquitoes in your area.

·        Take steps to cope with feelings of fear, grief and depression after a traumatic event.

§  The Disaster Distress Helpline (disasterdistress.samhsa.gov) provides 24/7, year-round crisis counseling and support. Call 1-800-985-5990 (TTY for deaf/hearing impaired: 1-800-846-8517) or text TalkWithUs to 66746.
Be safe after flooding

·        Avoid driving through flooded areas, especially when the water is fast moving.

§  As little as six inches of water can cause you to lose control of your vehicle.

§  Return to your flooded home only after local authorities have told you it is safe to do so.

·        Use bleach to clean mold off of hard things like floors, stoves, sinks, countertops, plates, and tools.

§  Dilute bleach to the proper concentration.

·        Throw out items that cannot be washed and cleaned with bleach, such as mattresses, pillows, carpeting, carpet padding, and stuffed toys.

·        Remove and throw out drywall and insulation contaminated with sewage or flood waters.

·        Thoroughly clean all hard surfaces, such as concrete, wood, and metal furniture, countertops, and appliances, with hot water and laundry or dish detergent.

Keep food safe

·        Throw away any food and bottled water that may have come in contact with flood or storm water. Learn how to save undamaged food packages exposed to flood.

·        When it comes to the safety of your food, when in doubt, throw it out.

·        Learn more at foodsafety.gov.

Use Safe Water

·        Listen for water advisories from local authorities to find out if your water is safe for drinking and bathing.

·        Keeping your hands clean during an emergency helps prevent the spread of germs. If your tap water is not safe to use, wash your hands with soap and water that has been boiled or disinfected.

·        Do not use contaminated water to wash dishes, brush your teeth, wash and prepare food, wash your hands, make ice, or make baby formula.

·        If you don’t have clean, safe, bottled water, boil water to make it safe. If boiling is not possible, you often can make water safer to drink by using a disinfectant, such as unscented household chlorine bleach, iodine, or chlorine dioxide tablets.

Senator Jim Dabakis

A fiery town hall will be held with healthcare experts to address Cassidy/Graham and Utah's 4-year rejection of full Medicaid Expansion.

Senator Dabakis (D - Salt Lake City) had this comment on the GOP Healthcare Plan now circulating in Washington:

"The Republican plan is great news if you are an insurance company or if you have a lot of stock in the healthcare industry. However, the plan is a generational catastrophe if you are a Utah family. If Cassidy/Graham is defeated, the Utah Legislature and Governor should swallow their pride and accept full Medicaid Expansion. This would mean $677 million dollars a year in healthcare coverage for Utah's low-income families and a huge boost to our economy!"

Date: Tuesday, September 26, 2017
