North Ogden - June 3 served as a special day for the residents of North Ogden as ground breaking took place on the site of the new Public Works Facility. The facility, located at 160 East Pleasant View Drive, will include some vastly needed new changes in order to better serve the North Ogden area. It will include: a 21,000 square foot shop area with pull thru bays, with 3,500+ square feet of “bonus” mezzanine storage area; a 4,400 square foot office building (traditional masonry or block construction to provide a pleasing fit in the residential neighborhood) plus a bonus 4,400 square foot basement area with vehicle storage capability; a fuel station; a 4,500 square foot salt & sand shed; a 4,000 square foot external storage area (concrete pad with fence); a 15-foot concrete apron with full drive-around access around shop building for enhanced workflow and safety; a paved road through entire site with access onto Lomond View and Pleasant View Drives; and a full site work and earthwork, including detention basin and salt & oil separators to protect groundwater, among other features. The shop building will be a steel building with 6 feet of masonry from the base to increase durability as well.

Several City Council members attended the event along with Mayor Brent Taylor, 3 former mayors of North Ogden, Utah House District 7 Representative Justin Fawson, and other residents who helped plan the new facility. Members of Lundahl Building Systems were also in attendance as they will be serving as the construction company.

Another great thing about the facility is that the residents will not have to see a tax increase to pay for it. City Manager Ron Chandler said through an e-mail that the facility will be paid for using multiple funds from different departments. “Most of it (the funding) is coming from the capital projects fund, but the general fund, the water fund, the sewer fund and the storm water fund are also contributing. We are very pleased to tell everyone that the facility will be built without debt and without a tax increase.”

Mayor Taylor said, through an e-mail sent to the Sentinel News, how proud he is to see the new facility come to fruition and how it will be a great addition for North Ogden. “It represents many months of hard work by the City Council, Public Works Committee, and City staff. We recognize the work of past and present City leaders who have contributed to this project, even if on different sides of the debate. This project divided our City and generated significant disagreement, but now it is time for us to come back together and rally around a great project that will move our City forward and enable us to effectively serve our residents for years to come.” Mayor Taylor also mentioned how the facility will be able to meet the needs of residents now and in the future since there will be plenty of room for future expansion, if needed. It is expected to be done in the winter of this year, weather permitting, and will serve as a great legacy for North Ogden.
