Some students enjoy the thrill of going above and beyond academic expectations.  Even with extracurricular opportunities, jobs and a social life to keep track of—these students have found a way to rise to the top.

Although many students apply for Sterling Scholar, only 13 are chosen from the various categories.

Here are the Weber High Warriors representing their school: Samuel Perkins, Instrumental Music; Bradley Gray, Visual Arts; Caden Thomas, Speech/Theater Arts/Forensics; Brielle Redd, Dance; Merick Masters, Vocal Performance; Kaleb Adams, Mathematics; Josh Phipps, Computer Technology; Jacob Bush, Business & Marketing; Henderson Bird, Science; Sarah Calvert, English; Ashley Potokar, Family and Consumer Sciences; Karlsyn Madsen, World Language; and  Alexis Martinez, Social Science.

“A Sterling Scholar is a high school senior who is publicly recognized and awarded for the pursuit of excellence in scholarship, leadership and citizenship in the State of Utah,” states the program’s website.

Deseret News and KSL Broadcast Group directly administer the Wasatch Front Region, one of five throughout the state.  The other regions where the Sterling Scholar program is independently executed are: Central Utah, Northeast Utah, Southeast Utah and Southwest Utah.

Judging for the semi-finalists was held Wednesday, February 15th. Final judging was held March 2, and winners were announced March 9th. If you’re interested, you may look at more information regarding the Sterling Scholars in the Wasatch Front Region at https://www.facebook.com/sterlingscholars
