On March 22nd, 1,435 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and their leaders participated in the 28th annual Scouting for Food Drive.  The group is from the Weber View District, which serves North Ogden, Pleasant View, Harrisville, Farr West, and Plain City. The food drive was very successful in collecting 52,400 pounds of food which was collected and transported to the Ogden Rescue Mission. They would like to thank the public for their generosity of the donated food items. The amount collected was nearly 30% more than last year. They appreciated the donation of time by the youth and the leaders. Petersen Incorporated kindly provided the space for the food collection and sorting, and the Utah National Guard provided service in providing trucks and personnel in transporting the collected food.

At the Ogden Rescue Mission each year, more than 100,000 meals are prepared and served to poor and needy men, women and children, who come to the doors for help.  Shelter and local residents can receive free medical and dental care at the clinic there each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Staffed by volunteer doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists and chiropractors, the clinic serves more than 2,000 patients annually. This service contributes to significant taxpayer savings, as patients would otherwise clog area hospital emergency rooms.  Without the support of all the various people involved in giving of their time and donated items, the Rescue Mission wouldn’t have the help so many people need.
